SPRINGFIELD -- After a nearly two hour standoff, a man surrendered to city police on Friday morning. The Special Response Team surrounded a home in the 2500 block of College Street after a 911 hangup call.

Officers blocked off the area after finding a man with a gun on the front porch threatening to kill himself. Traffic was stopped on the road until the crisis ended.
---- JOPLIN, Mo. -- A man from Joplin died after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. Troopers say Todd Evans pulled out in front of the driver on Missouri 66 just outside his hometown early Friday. The 41-year-old man died at a hospital.


---- OZARK, Mo. -- A former office worker accused of stealing more than $50,000 from a dentist in NIxa is scheduled to be in a Christian County courtroom on Friday. Sandra Martin was a bookkeeper at Butterfield Dentistry until last year. That's when the dentist asked her for credit card statements to find out why his office card was declined. He told police that Martin resigned suddenly, leading to an investigation that found the card had been misused.
