VERONA, Mo. -- With weather dropping to the freezing mark, searchers looked for a missing 3-year-old girl on Sunday night. The child, who is from an Amish family, fell from a horse and buggy around 9:30 p.m. when a horse became spooked near the intersection of Highway P at Lawrence County Road 2170, which is about halfway between Verona and Mount Vernon.
Lawrence County sheriff's deputies, Verona firefighters and Aurora police and others were out looking for the toddler.
Her father had placed Hannah in the buggy and was preparing to get in himself when something spooked the horse, which raced off with only the girl on board. The father tried to chase down the horse and buggy and then went for help about 10 p.m. Sunday.
