SPRINGFIELD -- City police say a man parked his car on the highway and purposely jumped into traffic on southbound U.S. 65 near the James River Freeway on Monday afternoon. A tractor trailer hit and killed him.

Police were trying to identify the driver later in the afternoon. They say another driver saw him try the same thing earlier near U.S. 65 at Battlefield Road. He was not hurt that time, got back in his car and went on down the road.

Police say the witness tried to follow the man to get his license plate number but lost him after he ran a red light.
