MOUNTAIN GROVE, Mo. -- A fire extensively damaged the Dora White Community Center on Monday afternoon. Mountain Grove firefighters got help in fighting the fire from Norwood, Mansfield and Cabool firefighters.
The city-owned center on 1st Street, just off the square, closes each day at 4. Someone reported the fire about 4:20. The center is where meals for senior citizens are served. Meals on Wheels also prepares food for homebound clients.
Firefighters say the fire may have started in the attic, and possibly smoldered for awhile before finally getting enough oxygen to get out of control. They had not yet determined a cause by late Monday night.
