OMAHA, Ark. - The longtime superintendent of the Omaha School District was found dead in his office on Tuesday. David Land was 65.

The Boone County sheriff says there was nothing suspicious in the office. Because the death was unattended, an autopsy will be conducted at the state's crime lab.

The Harrison Daily Times reported that students, staff and friends recalled numerous instances of Land offering help and demonstrating his care for others. Land was known for helping people in financial difficulty, going as far as covering bounced checks and asking banks to waive the fees. He would sometimes drive students to state colleges and help them through the paperwork for financial aid.

Someone found Land about 4 p.m., after classes ended Tuesday. On Wednesday, counselors were at the school to talk with students about the death of their superintendent.
