SPRINGFIELD -- It's official. The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks is open at its new location.

CBCO's new headquarters is on Campbell Avenue at Plainview Road. It's a former Summer Fresh grocery building and is beautifully remodeled.

The new facility doubles the space that CBCO had in its old building -- and just in time. Blood donations had grown by 300 percent since CBCO's beginnings in 1995. In its old building on Glenstone Avenue at Seminole Street, which is a former Consumers Market grocery store, CBCO went from collecting and distributing 30,000 units of blood to more than 100,000 units a year.

The old building will remain as a blood donor center. It will be renovated and renamed as the Bill Reser Donor Center, in honor of late retired banker Bill Reser, who died last year. Reser was one of the original board members and was instrumental in founding CBCO.

The video is our conversation with Executive Director Don Thomson about the move and how it will help CBCO.
