SPRINGFIELD -- Grace Peters used to spend 40 hours a week at her job inside the Springfield Underground.  Now, she spends that time in front of a computer.

"I was laid off in October," said Peters. "I just bought a house, so I was devastated."

After applying for unemployment, Peters started her job hunt.   It was a class at the Missouri Career Center that opened her eyes to searching for work on the World Wide Web.

"It's overwhelming," said Peters.

So where do you start if you're searching for work online? Experts suggest starting at Indeed.com. The site is a one-stop shop that searches thousands of other large career sites for you.

Your next stop should be statewide job sites, like DiscoverArkansas.net or MissouriCareerSource.com.  These sites make it easy to find a job near you.

Finally, check out the Web sites of local companies.  Any openings may only be on the company site, and not the mega-search sites.

Peters says she's using all three types of sites until she finds the right fit.

"You just got to keep looking for a job," she says, "because something is going to come along."
