BERGMAN, Ark. -- The superintendent of the Bergman School District says an elementary music teacher has bacterial meningitis and is in serious condition. The Arkansas Department of Health said in a note to parents and others that "preliminary lab reports indicate this type of meningitis does NOT require antibiotic treatment of contacts."

Dr. Sandra Snow, the medical director of the Health Department's Communicable Disease/Immunization section, said officials would stay "in close contact with the medical facility" in case the diagnosis changes.
