JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Tour of Missouri says Lance Armstrong's team will take part in the 600-mile bicycling race this year. Race organizers say Team Astana will be in the field of the third annual competition across the state.
The Tour of Missouri says the team is widely considered the world's top stage racers. Another top U.S. cyclist, Levi Leipheimer, is also on the team.
The race begins Sept. 7 and ends Sept. 13 with circuit races in
St. Louis and Kansas City. An individual time trial is set for Sedalia, and four point-to-point road races are planned -- Ste. Genevieve to Cape Girardeau; Farmington to Rolla; St. James to Jefferson City; Chillicothe to St. Joseph.
This is the first year the race hasn't gone through Clinton, Springfield and Branson. Last year an estimated 435,000 spectators lined the roadside for the event while fans from 145 countries watched live coverage by Webcast.
