SPRINGFIELD -- A mail carrier is recovering after a vicious dog bite on Thursday morning. Gary Blume was bitten just above his right eye while delivering mail in the 2700 block of West Olive Street. Blume received several stitches.

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department quarantined the dog for a mandatory 10 days. The dog's owners now face fines from the city for having a loose dog and a possible lawsuit from the United States Postal Service.

The dog's owner said in an interview that she is shocked about the attack.

"He is a good dog," she said.

The postmaster says Blume plans to be back on his route on Friday.
