SPRINGFIELD -- This late blast of wintry weather is taking it's toll in more ways than one. With colder temperatures on the way Saturday night, many of you may be worried about sensitive plants and trees.

At Wickman's Garden Village, about the only thing they're doing is putting away some trees that are fully leafed out. Other things, they say will be fine, while others may just get bit.

Wickman's got a shipment of trees just a couple days ago that aren't acclamated to the Ozarks. They already have full leaves, so staff were busy putting them inside Saturday afternoon.

They say things like redbuds, peonies, onions and lettuce should be fine. But magnolia trees will probably get their blooms damaged, and any other trees, like peach or apple trees could get hurt by the cold, especially peach, which bloom a little earlier.

And if you do have leafed-out trees out in the cold, they could get hurt a little.

"Well, it won't kill the tree," Pat Scammahorn of Wickman's Garden Village said, "but it's going to stress the tree if the leaves are bit. It'll have to make new leaves. If the blooms get bit, it probably won't hurt the tree nearly as badly."

KY3 spoke with someone with Ozark Mountain Orchards near Highlandville, and they say their peach trees are in full bloom. They're hoping the temperature Saturday night won't get too cold, because at 27-degrees they'll lose only about 10% of the blooms, while at 25-degrees, they could lose 90%.
