Arkansas lawmakers want felony for residents buying cigarettes out of state

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Should buying more than 21 packs of cigarettes out of state be a felony? Some Arkansas legislators think so.

Backers of a bill that was defeated Friday, say measure is an effort to stop people from driving to neighboring states and loading up on lower-priced cigarettes.

As the law stands now in Arkansas, it's a misdemeanor for someone to have 11 packs of cigarettes that don't have Arkansas tax stamps.
