NIXA, Mo. -- Friday was a day for cleanup for people in neighborhoods run over by storms on Thursday night. High winds damaged the Wellington Park subdivision, where the strength of the storm took many by surprise.

By living in Nixa, you're sure to get plenty of practice dodging storms. But this block is new to feeling the brunt.

"I was sitting on the couch with my three kids, and I looked up and noticed the curtain on the window was moving a little bit," said Emily Weaver. "The window was starting to vibrate, the blinds on the window were vibrating. I yelled for the kids to get in the closet. The window blew in; there was no noise, no warning."

At the end of it, a neighbor’s trampoline wrapped around the back of the Weavers’ house, and the family learned the damage was shared.

"We were down here; I was rocking the baby and had the TV off; it was dark and then all of a sudden it just hit,” said Brad Foster. "My wife was upstairs working on some stuff, and it was shaking so bad up there that the things on the desk were moving, and she came running downstairs. I picked up my son; we ran over to this closet, getting everything ready to get in there, and, as soon as we got in, it was done that quick."

Property in and around Strafford also is damaged. Strong winds ripped shingles and siding off several homes on Bumgarner Boulevard and left several without power. Emergency crews helped residents place tarps over holes in their roofs. Outside, sheds also sustained damage.

If you live in Greene County, and have damage to your property, the Emergency Management Office asks you to call it at (417) 869-6040.

The weather system produced large hail, winds up to 70 mph and reports of funnel clouds and tornadoes. The worst damage reported by the National Weather Service was in southeast Missouri, where strong winds demolished a car wash and brought down a service station canopy in Charleston.

Frost warnings are posted for Saturday morning for a wide area of Missouri.
