CASSVILLE, Mo. – The problem of teenagers using and abusing alcohol and prescription drugs is all too common. People in Cassville are trying to address the issue head-on.
The Cassville Community Coalition hosted a public meeting on Tuesday night to open the lines of communication between parents and teens. A survey of Cassville's middle and high school students showed 32 percent of them drank alcohol in the past 30 days and 17 percent used prescription drugs.
The coalition says part of the problem is availability. At the meeting, the Barry County prosecuting attorney also talked about a teenager from Monett who died of alcohol poisoning. He hopes her death would resonate with the teens.
