HOUSTON, Mo. -- It was about 50 years ago.

"I remember marching in the parade. I remember the former president being here," said Mike Manier.

As the black and white film played out, faded memories of the day that former President Harry S Truman came to visit the small town of Houston became increasingly clear to Manier and Omanez Fockler.

"I'd forgotten my little brother. I saw him on there and you keep seeing more people," said Fockler.

"Right. There is Porkey Stricklum," said Manier.

"Jerry Shelton has the trombone second from the left. Peggy Haney is on the left," Manier said.

"And they married," said Fockler.

The two shared a few laughs as they relived those precious moments of their past.

"Very excited to see the tape," said Fockler.

News reports that day said more than 5,000 people attended Truman's dedication speech at the opening of Texas County Memorial Hospital.

"It's not every day you get to see a former president," Fockler said.

And it's not every day you get to watch a memory so treasured by the town.

"The hospital opening was a big deal for the community; there was a lot of interest," said Manier.

Fast forward to today and you see so much has changed.

"The growth of the town is dramatically different than it was," said Manier.

The hospital's original main hallway is still intact; it was built in 1958. Since then it's been expanded several times and administrators hope to expand again once they have the finances. They plan to serve the community another 50 years and beyond.

" We continue to want to see it prosper and provide quality healthcare to our community because our families live here, so it's all very meaningful for us," said Fockler.
