GALENA, Mo -- A man who authorities say is a suspect in a homicide at a home on the southern tip of Table Rock Lake near Omaha, Arkansas is in the Stone County jail.

A tip led Stone County sheriff's deputies to a motel in Galena. Shortly after 7:00 Thursday morning, Ernest Chastain was seen walking toward the red SUV that he was reported to have taken after the homicide.

Chastain was taken into custody along with a woman who was staying in the motel room. Chastain will appear in court this morning for an extradiition hearing.

Boone County, Arkansas deputies fround Susie Powers, 53, shot to death inside her home on Tuesday afternoon. It's a shock for neighbors but especially for Powers' family and friends, who can't understand why.

Usually a peaceful and welcoming place, Powers' home became a crime scene on Tuesday. Ron Tucker is her next-door neighbor.

"First, I saw a police car go in, and then I saw several other cars go in. I didn't realize it at the time -- they were unmarked cars," Tucker said.

Boone County investigators think Powers was shot to death mid to late morning, but not found until almost 3 in the afternoon.

"We're right here on the lake, and people go down there and shoot at things down there. I probably heard it but never paid any attention to it. When I'm working on my airplane, I'm oblivious to everything else," said Tucker.

By the time Powers' daughter, Lindsey Blood, heard what happened, her mother's boyfriend, whom she planned to marry, was nowhere to be found.

"He's got my mom's vehicle and her cell phone," Blood said on Wednesday.

"If he didn't do anything, then why is he running?" said Powers' friend, Sunnie Blankenship.

They say the woman who was so loving and giving toward every person and every creature didn't deserve this.

"She was too good-hearted, to kind hearted, and she would trust anybody," said Blood.
"She never turned anyone away; never, never turned anyone away," said Blankenship.
