ST. LOUIS -- The Humane Society of Missouri asks pet owners to take precautions to keep their pets safe in the summer heat. Heat indexes could exceed 100 degrees this week. High temperatures can be deadly for pets left without plenty of water and a cool, shady place to rest.
Here are some tips:
- Never leave a pet unattended in a parked car when the temperature is more than 70 degrees.
- Keep pets inside when temperatures are dangerously hot.
- Provide outdoor pets with fresh, clean water and shade throughout the day.
- Report cases of animals in heat-related jeopardy.
