MONETT, Mo. -- Empire District Electric Company crews scrambled Tuesday afternoon to restore service to the east side of Monett, Purdy and Butterfield. A spokeswoman for Empire says the heat caused a line to sag into a tree, shorting out the line and related equipment.

The outages started around 2 p.m. and were over by 5. Monett City Hall says city workers couldn't fix problems in Monett until Empire repairs the line. The outages included businesses in the Monett Industrial Park.
