Berryville mayor goes to jail for DWI

By Paula Dowler

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Berryville Mayor Tim McKinney is headed to jail. McKinney pleaded guilty on Friday morning for driving while intoxicated; it's his second offense.

He also had a second-offense drug possession charge transferred to Washington County Drug Court. If McKinney completes a drug program, that charge will be dismissed.

McKinney will serve a 39-day jail sentence at the Carroll County jail for his first offense in 2008. He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving on March 23, 2008, and faced no additional jail time as long as he wasn't arrested against within a year. McKinney was arrested March 18, 2009, near Johnson on charges of drunken driving and possessing marijuana.

He's due July 6 in Washington County Drug Court. McKinney was screened for drugs and alcohol at Friday's hearing; the test was negative.
