SPRINGFIELD -- A police chase of a stolen pickup started here on Tuesday afternoon and ended with a crash in Lebanon. Several law agencies picked up the pursuit from Springfield police and then Greene County sheriff’s deputies.
Springfield police say it began with the report of a stolen truck around 3 p.m. Shortly after that, a Missouri State University substation officer identified the stolen truck, and the chase began.
It led all the way to the intersection of Kansas Expressway at Nichols Street. That's where the driver of the white Dodge Dakota plowed into a passenger car -- and kept going. Fortunately, the driver in the passenger car was not injured.
The pickup driver then moved onto Interstate 44 and began heading east. Authorities finally were able to stop him near Lebanon.
“The Lebanon Police Department did notify me they had deployed spike strips, that the vehicle subsequently left the roadway and crashed just prior to getting to Lebanon,” said Springfield Police Lt. Greg Higdon.
Police had not released the suspect's name by Tuesday evening. He was treated at the hospital in Lebanon for his injuries from the crash.
Marshfield police officers, Webster and Laclede County sheriff's deputies, and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers helped with the chase.
