SPRINGFIELD -- The Midtown Neighborhood Association held its annual Independence Day Parade.

Organizers plan for the event to be like a traditional, down-home, Fourth of July event.

From clowns and candy to groups and politicians, parade goers don't mind a day full of Fourth of July pride.

"It's a pretty significant thing we're celebrating," Jim Ampleman said. "I think celebrating it longer is better than shorter. It's nice, local, close to home, kids love the candy."

This is the 19th year for the Midtown Independence Day Parade.

It wasn't the boat parade they were expecting - but Kimberling City still had a big celebration for the Fourth.

Meanwhile in Kimberling City, Fireburst '09 is an all-day long celebration.

Vendors are in the Summer Fresh parking lot. Following a bluegrass band,a massive fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m.

The event's free, but donations are welcome.
