There were plenty of fireworks at Hammons Field on July 4th, but the only ones that Cardinal fans enjoyed came after the game. And had those post-game fireworks not be going on, most of the fans would have left after the first couple of innings, as the Frisco Roughriders supplied the major fireworks during the game.

The Roughriders exploded to a 12-1 lead over the opening three innings, as Cardinal starter Brian Broderick was torched for 8 runs and two homers in just two-and-a-third innings of work.

Frisco would end up with 5 homers on the night, including two each for Chad Tracy and John Whittleman in drubbing the Cards 18-4.

Springfield's record is now 4-5 in the second half of the season, and they'll start a three-game homestand with Midland, the first place team in the South Division, Sunday night at 6:10.
