The season is young, but the Springfield Lasers are off to a promising start as their 20-19 win over the Kansas City Explorers Sunday night kept the Lasers unbeaten at 2-0.

The Lasers got off to a good start as their men's doubles team of Martin Damm and Raven Klaasen defeated Mike Russell and Dusan Vemic 5-3.

Klaasen lost his singles match 5-2, but the Lasers rebounded when the mixed doubles of Vania King and Martin Damm bested Dusan Vemic and Kveta Peschke 5-3.

Kansas City's Eugenie Bouchard topped Springfield's Chanelle Scheepers in women's singles 5-3, but King and Scheepers finished off the evening with a women's doubles 5-3 victory over Peschke and Bouchard to keep the Lasers unbeaten as they head into Monday night's home match against Newport Beach.

King, by the way, is late joining the Lasers because she was at Wimbledon, where her doubles team made it to the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual champions, Venus and Serena Williams.

And speaking of Wimbledon, Roger Federer and American Andy Roddick put on a masterful men's final on Sunday that went to a fifth and deciding set that lasted a record 30-games. There Federer finally won the match 16-14, giving him his 15th Grand Slam title, which surpasses Pete Sampras for the top spot on the all-time list. For more on that match including reactions from Federer, Roddick, and Sampras, take a look at the accompanying video.
