HARRISON, Ark., -- Folks in Harrison, Arkansas are keeping their eyes peeled for an unlikely visitor. Several people swear they've spotted an alligator.

Ever since word spread of the alligator sightings in Lake Harrison and a nearby creek, people have been on the lookout for the elusive creature.

"I've been here for the past four days everyday on and off," said Jill Witty, who said she and her friends spend about three hours a day at the lake.

At this point, their quest has led them to the usual water habitat.

"So far we've seen turtles, fish and beavers," said Dlfindo Cervantes.

They thought they had spotted the reptile on one excursion.

"There was some driftwood up that way and I was like, oh my gosh, is that it?" said Kasandra Jenkins.

Over the last two months, a handful of people have called police warning them they had seen an alligator. Officers checked it out but came up empty-handed.

Mark Wright, who said he and a neighbor saw the alligator on Wednesday, believes the reptile's head was about 18 to 24 inches long.
