ORONOGO, Mo. -- Authorities are investigating a vandalism spree that caused between $30,000 to $50,000 in damage to the Oronogo Cemetery in Jasper County. Jeff Fries, chief of the JasCo Metropolitan Police Department, says at least 50 headstones and monuments were damaged.
Several of the large stones were pushed off their bases. Some of the monuments fell onto others, breaking them, and some stones were moved. Pete Miller, sexton of the cemetery, says it's likely more than one person was involved in the vandalism.
Fries says there are no suspects but police do have "a couple
of leads" in the case.
