FREISTATT, Mo -- The annual migration to Freistatt has wrapped up for another year.

The annual Ernte Fest concluded Saturday evening with plenty of beer, food and German music to enjoy.

Over three decades ago, the local Lion's Club started the German festival as a way to raise money for charity.

Members say this event is more successful than what they previously did selling light bulbs and broomsticks.

"That's our major fundraiser," Freistatt Lion's Club member, Bob Dieckhoff said. "We've contributed over $538,000 to various charitable organizations. Primarily all Lion's Clubs are sight oriented; they help prevent blindness and help the people that are visually impared or blind."

Proceeds from the event will be divided between several community organizations and programs.
