BENNETT SPRING STATE PARK, Mo. -- A bus rolled over, injuring seven teenage girls. It happened Sunday morning in Dallas County near Bennett Spring State Park. Three of the girls sustained minor injuries, two moderate, and two are serious.
The girls are all from the Lake of the Ozarks area. Those with serious injuries are Brittnie Pratt, 17, and Chloe Schmidt, 17. Those with moderate injuries include Colleen Armstrong, 16, and Elizabeth Wadsack, 16. Chelsea Bryant, 17, Brittney Green, 17, and Lauryn Salts, 17, all sustained minor injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the girls were riding in a 1990 GMC Bus that belongs to a river outfitter along the Niangua River. The bus, driven by Steven Newman, 53, was westbound on Moon Valley Road, four miles south of Bennett Springs, when it moved over to the right to avoid an oncoming vehicle. That's when the bus ran off the road and rolled down an embankment, landing on its roof. At least three of the girls are Camdenton High School Cheerleaders. Camdenton Athletic Director Jeff Whitney says, to his knowledge, the apparent canoe trip was not a school function. The bus bears the name of Fort Niangua River Resort. Most Viewed
