Injured Hillcrest High student was off ventilator for awhileby KY3 News
SPRINGFIELD -- It's been a difficult day for the student hit by a car last week while walking to Hillcrest High School. Kimberly Armstrong was making enough progress to be taken off a ventilator on Tuesday. Late Wednesday afternoon, however, a spokesman for the family said the teenager had to go back on a ventilator to help her breathe.
Last week doctors placed a shunt inside Kimberly's skull to relieve pressure on her brain. She also had surgery on her shoulder. Kimmie turns 16 on Friday.
Here are messages from a Web site at which Kimberly Armstrong's family is posting updates on her condition. Kimberly was hit by a car at the intersection of Broadway Avenue at Kearney Street while she was walking to Hillcrest High School about 6:20 a.m. on Sept. 22.
This message was posted on Tuesday: Yesterday, Kimmy had surgery on her shoulder and handled that very well. Today, Kimmy was taken off the ventilator and is now breathing on her own. Kimmy's medicine continues to be reduced. Please keep your well wishes and prayers coming.
This message was posted last Sunday: Kimmy continues to be in critical condition but small improvements have been made. Today, Kimmy was able to squeeze her mom's hand while she was talking to her. Because of the small improvements Kimmy is having, her doctors have changed some of her medications.
