MOUNT VERNON, Mo. -- A former Marionville city clerk made her first court appearance on Monday on a charge of stealing from the town. Investigators say Claudia White, who was city clerk for 16 years, didn’t pay her city sewer bill and wiped the $2,400 debt off the city’s records.

The Marionville Board of Aldermen fired White in July. According to a probable cause statement, White told Highway Patrol investigators what she did. The Lawrence County prosecuting attorney charged her on Sept. 21. She’s due back in court on Oct. 26.
