JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Governor Jay Nixon has appointed a new prosecutor for Dent County in south-central Missouri.

Brandi L. Baird replaces Jessica Sparks, who resigned earlier this year after the attorney general's office sought to remove her from office.

The attorney general's office argued Sparks failed to fulfill her duties, misused the office by accusing police of misconduct and was involved in domestic disturbances.

Baird's appointment was announced Thursday. She's a 36-year-old graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and worked for the Missouri House speaker from 2000 to 2003.
