NEAR ASH GROVE, Mo -- Homestead Days Festival near Ash Grove was held this weekend.

Volunteers reenact period carpenters, fur trappers, crafters and military personnel from the days when Nathan Boone lived in Greene County.

The cold temperatures didn't keep the visitors away, learning much about the life our their ancestors.

"We have so many people willing to volunteer their time came out to the Missouri State Parks facility and share with people of Missouri their heritage," natural resource manager, David Roggensees said.

"Remind them the frontier was here, this is a part of America, we helped build this nation, and this was how it was built."

Archeologists were also on hand, finding china, brick and bones near the home. The evidence they believe shows them the Boones had a summer kitchen outside.
