Springfield-- The trial for a man charged with kicking a Cox Hospital security guard to death begins Monday.

Jeffrey Bolden is accused of killing Monte Ruby in August of last year.

A judge granted a change of venue from from Greene County to Boone County.

Prosecutors said Bolden kicked Ruby in the back of the head injuring the guard's spine and brain stem; Ruby later died from those wounds.

Bolden claims he kicked Ruby because the guard was choking him.

Ruby's body was exhumed in June so scrapings could be taken from his fingernails for DNA evidence.

Bolden is charged with second degree murder.
