NEOSHO, Mo. -- A man who lives near Granby is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter for the death of a man during a nighttime hunting trip. Jacob Shamblin, 25, is charged for the shooting on Oct. 18 that killed Steven Cox, 19, of Granby.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Shamblin on Monday. He posted a $10,000 bond.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, Shamblin, Cox and Cox's brother-in-law, Shane Schmelzer, were in a wooded area northeast of Granby after dark. Shamblin and Schmelzer told deputies that they heard something in the woods and Shamblin fired his rifle at a figure that he thought was a deer. The shot hit Cox in the face.

Newton County Prosecuting Attorney Jacob Skouby says Shamblin was reckless and the shooting was more than an accident.
