JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Transportation reached the century mark in its quest to repair 802 of the state's worst bridges in five years. MoDOT says work is completed on 107 of the bridges, and an additional nine will be finished by the end of the year.

MoDOT plans to repair or replace all 802 bridges by Oct. 31, 2013, at a cost of about $700 million. Although it's large in scale, the initiative will not fix all of Missouri's bridges in need of repair. The state has about 1,200 bridges listed in poor or serious condition.
