Branson alderman Barker resigns because of pending moveedited news release
BRANSON, Mo. -- Ward 1 Alderman Stan Barker announced his resignation from the Board of Aldermen during the Board’s bi-weekly study session on Thursday. He is moving out of Branson later this month to northern Taney County and his last Board meeting will be next Tuesday.
Barker, who is also mayor pro-tem, has served as an alderman since 2001. His Ward 1 includes the north and northwest part of the city north of Missouri 76. "I’ve lived in Branson all my life and I raised my family here,” said Barker. “It will feel different not living in the city,” Mayor Raeanne Presley thanked Barker for his service to the city and said he has brought a wealth of experience to the Board. “He has the knowledge of so many past projects,” she said. Barker served on the Board of Aldermen during the largest growth period in the city’s history that included such projects as Branson Landing, the convention center and convention center hotel and Branson Hills. His most recent term as alderman will end in April. Any resident in Ward 1 interested in being appointed to serve out Barker’s term should contact Mayor Presley. Barker is the second alderman to resign in a month. Ward 3 Alderman Stephen Marshall resigned on Oct. 13 for family and business reasons. No one has been appointed yet to fill out his term.
