Springfield, Mo. -- A children's author from New York City is in Springfield with her new book "Jin Jin and the Rain Wizard."

Grace Chang is visiting area schools to talk about the book and will be at the Library Center on S. Campbell Ave Saturday at 10:00am. She will do a presentation that includes magic, puppetry and mime in celebration of the library's 10th Anniversary.

Grace was born in Beijing, China to a family of famous entertainers. Her father's talk shows were compared to American Variety shows such as Abbott and Costello (he and his two brothers appeared in the first black and white movie to be made in China). Grace has also appeared on stage and screen in both China and the US, including the film, The Joy Luck Club.

Grace currently spends her time writing children's books and producing and performing in stage shows that star her lead character, Jin Jin the Dragon. Her performances include magic and Illusion, mime, acrobatics and puppetry. She learned the art of magic and illusion from her grandfather in the courtyards of the Forbidden City, to which she lived next door. Years later, she was selected for the job of star illusionist and ringmaster in an internationally acclaimed Chinese circus.

Grace has also spent many years helping families to adopt babies from China. Her philanthropic work in adoption has been awarded by Adoptions from the Heart.
