JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missourians will soon have more chances to win tens of millions of dollars. The Missouri State Lottery Commission voted Friday to start selling lottery tickets for Mega Millions.

Missouri is one of 33 states that participate in Powerball, and one of 12 states that participate in Mega Millions, which started in 1996.

The estimated jackpot for Mega Millions on Friday was $63 million. The next estimated jackpot for Powerball was $80 million.

A Missouri Lottery Commission spokeswoman said the agency hopes to begin participating in Mega Millions by the end of January. But it is unclear if the state will be ready by then.
