SPRINGFIELD -- City police are seeing a lot of counterfeit $20 bills. Employees of a Walmart store just dropped off a stack of bad bills at the police station.
Police say employees who handle money need to look closely at the hologram in the right corner. The counterfeit one isn't raised. It can be tough to spot when you handle lots of cash every day. Another red flag is the bogus bills are a bit thicker. While Walmart turned in $120 worth of fake money recently, police say fast food restaurants tend to be the popular targets, and more profitable. The attraction are their dollar menus. Detectives say counterfeiters can order something for a buck, pass a bad $20 bill and pocket the change. They then head to the next stop.
