SEDALIA, Mo. -- A soldier from Fort Leonard Wood is charged with making a terroristic threat at the high school here.

The Pettis County sheriff says Michael Frederick went to Smith-Cotton High School last Saturday night during a senior dinner fundraiser. An assistant superintendent says Frederick told him that the Army had told Frederick to warn all schools in the area about six escaped convicts who might kidnap or hold students hostage. The sheriff says the report of escaped prisoners was not true.

Army officials say Fredrick had been reported as AWOL from the post.
