EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. -- Voters in the Eureka Springs School District will decide in February if they want to pay slightly higher property taxes for a new high school, and build it next to the elementary and middle schools. The school board and the tourist town's historic commission were at odds over a proposed location.
The school board wants to sell the land where the old high school stands because its prime real estate that could pay off the new school sooner. Historic preservationists oppose the plan, even after the school board voted not to make more repairs on the out-dated building.
