Little Rock--A record setting day for the Razorbacks.
Sophomore quarterback Ryan Mallett threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns to lead Arkansas to a 42-21 victory over Mississippi State. It's the Hogs fourth straight victory and seventh of the season.
Mallett has thrown for more than 300 yards three times this year. That's a new school record. He tied his five touchdowns in a game record.
Mallett threw two of those touchdowns to former Texarkana, Texas high school teammate freshman Cobi Hamilton. Hamilton hauled in 3 passes for 131 yards to go with those touchdowns.
The score didn't tell a complete story for the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. The Dogs rushed for 304 yards. Senior tailback Anthony Dixon ran for more than half that total with 174 yards and two touchdowns.
Dixon's 70 yard TD run in the third quarter pulled the Bulldogs to 28-21. That was as close as they got. The Hogs scored 21 unanswered points.
"They made a run at us in the second half.," Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino noted after the game. "Our guys did a nice job of answering when we needed too."
Arkansas ends the home portion of the schedule with a 6-1 record. Petrino thanked the fans for that.
"Our guys played good, our fans are awesome. I'd like to thank all of the fans."
Arkansas goes on the road next Saturday night at LSU.
