Joplin native killed in Afghanistan

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The family of Army Staff Sergeant John Cleaver says he was killed Thursday in Afghanistan when a suicide bomber attacked his supply convoy.

The Joplin native first joined the Navy in 1995, retired, then re-enlisted in the Army in 2005.

He was deployed four times during his military career.

Cleaver was 36 years old.
