Two more are charged for man's murder in Howell County in Septemberby KY3 News
WEST PLAINS, Mo. -- Two women from Hannibal are accused of buying the gun and ammunition used to kill a man near Mountain View two months ago. Howell County prosecutors charged Kristin Smith and Joann Cross last week with first-degree murder. They'd previously charged Annette Cross of Lawrence, Kan., and Dale Cross of Hannibal, Joann Cross' daughter and son, for the murder of Andrew Day last Sept. 14.
In a probable cause statement, a detective says Joann Cross confessed that she and Smith bought a pistol at a pawn shop and the ammo at a Walmart store in Hannibal about a week before Day was killed. Cross said she applied for the permit to buy the gun, and used Smith's money for the purchases. In a probable cause statement, a detective says Joann Cross admitted that she and Smith knew Annette and Dale Cross wanted the gun to murder Day. Annette Cross, who also goes by Annette Stanford, is an ex-girlfriend of Day. The detective wrote, "Near the end of the interview Joann Cross stated 'I wish I would have never got the gun. Me buying the gun and Annette and Dale doing it made me feel like I was the one that done it.' Joann Cross stated she knew what she had done was wrong." Both Joann Cross, 53, and Kristin Smith, 20, are in jail in lieu of $500,000 bonds. Annette and Dale Cross are each in jail in lieu of $1 million bonds. They're accused of burning down Day's home near Trask, just west of Mountain View, with Day's body inside it to try to cover up the shooting. Most PopularMore Good StuffAdvertisement
