Man is charged for burglaries at 10 churches in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD -- Joshua Higgins, 22, of Springfield is charged with 13 counts of second-degree burglary and one count of first-degree burglary.  City police believe Higgins is responsible for the rash of church burglaries that started in August.  In most of the burglaries, a thief stole cash after forcing his way into the churches.

Police are continuing to investigate several other burglaries and more charges are possible.  A judge set Higgins’ bond at $50,000.

Higgins was charged with burglary at the following churches:
--3535 N. Glenstone Ave., Praise Assembly Church of God (two counts)
--3114 E. Sunset St., Harvest Ministries
--3111 E. Battlefield Road, Second Baptist
--2722 W. Mt. Vernon St., Good News Worship Center
--2110 S. Blackman Road, Glendale Baptist
--4221 S. National Ave., Seminole Baptist
--2121 S. Blackman Road, Hope Community
--922 W. Republic Road, Wesley United Methodist (two counts)
--2848 N. Broadway Ave., Truth Community (two counts)
--2655 N. Grant Ave., Baptist Temple
