SPRINGFIELD -- The Salvation Army has opened its doors to help those who don't have a place to go during this bitterly cold weather. Its shelter is at 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway, at the northwest corner with Kansas Expressway.

If more than 10 people show up, they'll be allowed to stay. If there are fewer than 10 people, the organization will help them find another place to stay warm.

The Salvation Army is also providing assistance for the Christmas season. If you need help, you can visit them from 10 am - 3 p.m. and 4 -7 p.m. on Monday, and from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The deadly to apply is Dec. 18.

If you would like to make donations to the program, you can buy a toy at Kmart or Walmart and place it under the Angel Trees in their stores. Donations are being accepted until Dec. 18.

Volunteer bell ringers are still needed; call (417) 862-5509.
