LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Businessman Tom Cox of North Little Rock said Friday that he's dropping out of the race for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln. Cox, who launched his bid last summer, says it was difficult to balance the campaign's demands with those of his family and his business.

Cox's exit leaves eight Republicans running for the Senate nomination. Republican congressman John Boozman likely will announce Saturday that he's also running for the seat.

Cox is co-founder of the Arkansas Tea Party, which has organized protests around the state targeting President Barack Obama's budget policies.
