COLE CAMP, Mo. -- Farmers in Benton County are banding together for the good of the environment and their community. They want to start a wind farm to harness wind energy.

Sixty farmers have joined in on the plan and promise 16,000 acres of land to get the project moving. The group also is gauging interest from power companies in the area. One of the men behind the idea says he hopes it will help the local economy.

"We're trying hard to bring companies into the community and create more jobs," said Luke Jernigan, the proposal's co-creator. "That's why I got on board with this. My wife, she kind of challenged us around Christmas time to see what we could do for the community, so I see this as an opportunity to create jobs."

The group says it may set up a co-op so it can work with the power companies.
