LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Cleburne County sheriff identified a man killed by a tornado in the community of Pearson as Ward Baldridge, 79. Sheriff Marty Moss said Thursday that Baldridge was injured when the twister hit the family's home about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Moss says Baldridge died at the hospital in Heber Springs.
The sheriff says Baldridge's 75-year-old wife, Ivajean Baldridge, and his 23-year-old grandson, Blake Baldridge, suffered serious injuries. Both were taken to the hospital in Heber Springs and then transferred to a hospital in Little Rock. Pearson is about 50 miles north of Little Rock. The sheriff said a fourth person was also injured when the pickup that he was driving was blown off Arkansas 107 by the winds. Moss said the man has a shoulder injury and is hospitalized in Heber Springs. About 1,300 power outages were reported from near El Dorado in southern Arkansas to just south of Jonesboro in the northeast on Thursday morning following the twisters on Wednesday night. White County authorities say one person was hospitalized with a leg injury after a tornado near Center Hill. Lt. Scott Courtney of the Saline County Sheriff's Department said a dozen homes were damaged near Benton. A tornado did minor damage, snapping trees and downing power lines near Ozan in Hempstead County.
