A new Springfield business had a great grand opening this weekend.  Shoppers flocked to the new Red Racks Thrift Store.
There are several well known thrift stores in town- the Salvation Army, Goodwill, the DAV; well this one is actually a Disabled American Veterans store with a new name and look, and it drew a crowded parking lot and lots of business.

Saturday, the parking lot was packed at the new Red Racks Thrift Store on South Kansas Expressway.  It's a new look for the Disabled American Veterans, reaching a new part of Springfield.   "We were looking for a larger location. We also wanted to get to this market- the south end of Springfield," says Red Racks manager Joe Nelson.

Shoppers were excited to flip through 20,000 square feet of red racks in search of great deals.  Kawehilani Liggett says, "I usually look for glass things, sometimes toys just to accessorize what the kids already have, and occasionally, you'll find brand new shirts or sandals."

Moms like Liggett find the kids' section especially worthwhile.  "I have three, and I have boys, so usually they can, the shorts area in the summertime, they can really rack up on those, because they go through at least 3 or 4 pairs of clothes a day," says Liggett.

It's also a jackpot for finding some authentic retro styles.  Annie Sales says she looks for "vintge stuff, stuff with a lot of character, patterns like old vintage prints and stuff like that."

"The retail shops are selling a lot of the retro stuff that we have, that's the real thing," says Nelson.

The store also takes pride in being green.  "It's recycling at its finest," says Sales.

But it's main cause it's supporting those who fought for the red, white and blue, with all the store's net profits going to the Disabled American Veterans Missouri Chapter.  "We provide transportation to them, back and forth, to the VA hospitals, veterans that need help with utilities or clothing," says Nelson.

Shoppers are happy to know their dollars will support a great cause.  "It's nice, you get like a bonus for everything you buy," says Sales.

The DAV has two other stores in Springfield- on South Campbell near Sunshine and on North Glenstone.  The new Red Racks Thrift Store still really needs donations, especially with the shopping crowd over the last three days.  The manager says they will even pick up in the Springfield area.
