The Springfield School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to relocate the district's preschool special education program to a new location. The move will allow most of the services to be under one roof rather than scattered throughout the city. Earlier this month, some parents told KY3 News they had concerns about the location of the site chosen. But no one was at Monday's school board meeting to object and the matter was quickly passed. Now the district will start planning to move early childhood, special education teachers, therapists and speech pathologists into this soon to be vacant Price Cutter at 2525 West College. Some people had concerns over the location because of a registered sex offender who lives nearby, also because it's close to a bar, and according to police, there were various crimes involving drugs and stolen property committed near the property. But Amy Krause, the Director of Special and Compensatory Programs for the R-12 School District, said, "We have tried to answer those concerns as have, as have the board members, as they've come up. We have done our research we've looked at lots of properties around the city, this one fell in met our criteria. This is an excellent opportunity for our early children students. We are so excited to be able to have a center where we can house all of our expertise in one location, have our children in there and really resemble a school for early childhood."
